What exactly is a Plugfest? In practice, they’re about connecting products for testing interoperability to ensure that end users realize the benefits of new technologies. No one company nor single product can drive any significant technical innovation; it takes a complete ecosystem beginning with organizations developing specifications followed by components and finally cables and boards and systems and applications–and all of the test equipment it takes to get all of these products from concept to production. Plugfests are the place where all of the pieces come together for the first time.

Just as importantly, Plugfests are about connecting the people who design, build, and market products and technologies. The bonds forged in the hours of testing often persist well beyond the events, creating efficient connections between professionals with the common interest of making a technology successful. It’s not too surprising that after the inception of Plugfests in 1992, they became a cornerstone for industry-wide cooperation.
